It was early morning and I was determined to do my morning walk. Five minutes into my walk I noticed that my sneaker was untied. Because I did not want to trust my balance to stand up and tie the shoe I quickly looked for something to lean on. I saw to my right what I thought to be a perfect solution, “A US Postal Box used by the Postman to pick up the mail for delivery.
I thought to myself, ” Certainly ,I can safely lean on this and not lose balance while I tie my shoe.” It seemed so logical to trust the security of a Federal edifice. Just when I was about to put my weight on the seemingly strong box I looked down to see that one of the legs was broken and being propped by cement a stone partially on the cracked sidewalk and soggy grass. It was then clear that I could not depend on this box for support.
I immediately thought about Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your understanding.” (ESV) I thanked the Lord for keeping me alert and placed my foot on a neighbors steps to tie my shoe.
