Are You Recharging Your Spiritual Batteries Daily?

All the lights were out on my street during a powerful hurricane one year. Our house phone was dead and all electric outlets had no power. How were we going to contact family to let them know we were was ok? Then my husband had one of those “Duh” moments. He reminded me that as long as there is gas in car we could connect our chargers to the car and recharge our cell phones. The connection worked!

Every day during the recovery time after the hurricane we recharged our phones in the car until the power inside the house returned. As long as our phones were charged we could communicate with family and friends. This gave us not only hope but comfort.

I thought about that time today when walking with a neighbor. We reflected on the need to plug up our phones daily in order to get that connection to our internet, family and friends. We both wondered “What would we do if the Internet shut down.?” Wow, talk about rocking your world.

Yet, we were reminded how important it is to connect spiritually every day if we expected any power or wisdom from the Lord on a daily basis. We equated the need to connect with our phones with the need to connect spiritually -it is or should be a MUST.

We are right now living in a critical time in our history. The drama of the pandemic demands that we not rely totally on our natural physical and mental inclinations toward our fears, worries, bias, and judgements.

Romans 12:2 (NIV) says, ” Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

We cannot turn fears into faith and worry into worship or transform bias and mental judgements unless we connect not just to man’s wisdom but the renewing of our minds with a live connection to the Lord. So, I was reminded today of the importance of recharging my spiritual battery DAILY and just like when I overextend my phone’s capacity and may have to recharge it for longer duration I need to sometimes connect more than once a day spiritually.

What about you? Do you strive to recharge your spiritual batteries on a daily basis?
